Director, Editor
New York based director Diane Machin has worked with theaters, universities, and festivals throughout the United States. Favorite opera credits include her adaptation of Jacques Offenbach’s Bagatelle, a Christmas themed Gianni Schicchi, and assistant directing Eugene Onegin.
In May of 2020, Machin was awarded a 2020 JoElyn Wakefield-Wright Stage Director Fellowship from the National Opera Association. And as of August 2020, the short film she directed and edited while in quarantine, “The Product,” is an official selection at both the Indie Short Fest and Dumbo Film Festival.
During this unique time, Machin is dedicated to making opera more accessible to both seasoned and new audiences. Originally she was slated to direct the summer education outreach program at Chautauqua Opera, and assistant direct under Sarah Ina Meyers and Keturah Stickann. Instead, Machin provided creative video editing for Chautauqua Opera’s digital summer season. When not directing or editing, Machin can be found freelancing as a flamenco dancer.
